It’s almost amazing that wikipedia still notes the biggest band ever to come from Wisconsin as the Violent Femmes, that was 40 years ago.
In October Many years back on a warm day I drove in my white convertible with my top down from Appleton Wisconsin to a Milwaukee recording studio with my husband Tim Dorsey.
When we arrived I was sucked into the waitin room by cosmic energy from Talkin Heads guitar player, I sat next to him while he practiced for his session. His hair was black and pointed. I melted in the the couch and could feel my body slide nearer to him. I grabbed a few pillows and scrunched up trying to not to creep down too close.
I could hear echoes escaping from studio doors opening. My eyes followed bare feet on the wood floors, I looked up and it was the violent Femmes rushin to get dressed in their costumes to perform at an annual Halloween festival. I loved their show of spooky attire.
I needed some air and so did my new friend from Talking Heads. So we hopped into my convertible to get cigs and drinks. For just a moment I realized I was part of music magic.
When I got back I opened the studio door to join Tims party ware they were cooken up a spicy tune. Tim was recording vocals for a project with Darrell Stuermer from Milwaukee who was Phil Collins Guitar player from Genisis.
I will never forget that dreamy day hangin on a couch with the Talking Heads and exploring the Violent Femmes. Years have past and Tim always enjoyed getting calls to perform or record with Darrell Stuermer, Music waves are a force that moves us back and forth to each other to create rythym for groovy people on this earth.
